Аpartment Marata st.

Location: Saint-Petersburg

Area:70 m2

Year: 2022

The apartment is located in Saint Petersburg, in the historic city center. The clients are a family — a couple with one child — who are based in London but travel frequently to Saint Petersburg. In addition, the apartment was intended to be rented out during periods between their visits.

For this reason, one of the key objectives was to create a versatile interior: practical and well-suited for rental use, while at the same time warm and personal, incorporating elements that resonate with the clients’ lifestyle and aesthetic sensibility, allowing them to feel at home whenever they are in Saint Petersburg.

The result is a restrained, contemporary interior enriched with classical detailing in the finishes, subtly emphasizing the historic context of the property.

During the design process, it became clear that although the homeowner favors a restrained, minimalist aesthetic with crisp white walls, she also has a strong appreciation for bold color. As a result, carefully considered color accents were introduced through furniture and decorative elements. These vibrant details brought warmth and character to the space, transforming it from a neutral interior into an environment that feels more personal and closely aligned with the clients’ sensibility.

Vivid accents are introduced through furniture pieces by Aesthetic Objects—notably the coffee table–stool—as well as a painting by the artist Egor Laptarev.

The spatial planning was developed by architect Andrey Perepechko. An extensive and thoughtful body of work was carried out to restructure the space. A conventional corridor-type layout was transformed into a functional, two-level interior featuring two bathrooms, a spacious kitchen–living area, a master bedroom, and a mezzanine level accommodating a guest bedroom, a workspace, and a sauna.

The foundation of the interior finishes was established by the architect already at the planning stage. The concept is based on deliberately simple and restrained materials, such as white-painted walls and a glass balustrade enclosing the mezzanine level. Glass plays a particularly striking role in this project, emphasizing the clarity and geometry of the space.
